THE LAST TIME
lyrics & music © Dom Italiano
She's getting used to living alone
As she turns off the light; sets the alarm on her phone
Now she sleeps with her shoes on her feet
Even though no-one's there at night stealing her heat
The phone doesn't ring half as much as it used to
No one messages her just to say, "I love you"
And she wonders how so many years can be forgotten so soon
This is gonna be the last time that love is gonna get in the way
Next time, When it's all on the line
Nothing's gonna get in her way
The rooms are empty the furniture's gone
There's a T.V. but no good reason for turning it on
Maybe she'll find a smaller place to call home
It's hard for her to cover the rent on her own
But she can make the place a mess and not clean if don't want to
No more notes on the fridge saying, "I'm thinking of you"
Well the thought of being single makes her wish she'd been the first one to think of running away
This is gonna be the last time that love is gonna get in the way
Next time, When it's all on the line
Nothing's gonna get in her way
She never thought that she could make on her own
Well, things are better than she thought they'd be
And now she understands
When your hands are tied it's hard to hold on
solo
Well she's even missing things she never thought she'd get used to.
No more clothes on the floor, no more towels in the bedroom.
And the lights are never on when she comes home at the end of her day.
This is gonna be the last time that love is gonna get in the way
Next time, When it's all on the line
Nothing's gonna get in her way
About 'The Last Time' - 12/07/02 Dom
This song is totally autobiographical. It wasn't very good until I changed "I'm" to
"she's"! But it only started to take shape when we began playing it as a band. Hopefully,
by splitting the narrative between different singers, it gives the song more breadth and makes
the subject matter more accessible. It has a great "arena rock" vibe to it, and I love
playing the solo!
