SLAP MY FACE

Music any lyrics by Matthew Robinson © November, 2002

Hello, hello, how are you, it’s been a while
But it feels like it was just yesterday
Now I know, I know, I heard that you met somebody
I guess you can’t keep good news away
I wonder, how’s it been without me there?
Is the pain too much to bear?
Do you keep my picture in the bottom drawer?
Is he terrible in bed?
I’m going off my head
I stand before you, just make sure you

Slap my face and call me fool
If ever I say I’m over you
I find it hard to give too much away
‘Cause after all that we’ve been through
And all that I couldn’t be for you
It’s better that there’s things I never say

Now I’m fine, I’m fine, I’m working and playing
Taking time to appreciate being free
But sometimes, sometimes, I wonder if we had made it
What I would know and where I would be
But, that was then and this is now
I make a point of getting out
And get up high on what is there around me
But if you find me on your lawn
And am crapping on
Don’t appease me, don’t believe me, just

Slap my face and call me fool
If ever I say I’m over you
I find it hard to give too much away
‘Cause after all that we’ve been through
And all that I couldn’t be for you
It’s better that there’s things I never say
I tend to think about all the things I never say

But, before I go to leave
There’s something you could do for me
You could help me out with one small favour
Why not lend a friend a hand?
I know you’d understand
I’d be so happy (be so happy)
If you would let me

Slap your face and call you weak
And you could say you’re not over me
And you could ditch that guy I met today
‘Cause after all that we’ve been through
You know that I’d do the same for you
So jump on in the car let’s drive away
C’mon let me

Slap your face and call you weak
And you can say you’re not over me
And you could ditch that guy I met today
‘Cause after all that we’ve been through
You know that I’d do the same for you
So jump on in the car let’s drive away

Let’s drive away

Let’s drive away

About 'Slap My Face' - 11/02 - Matthew R.

This one started out as a physical challenge from Dom. I was on a family sabbatical in Brisbane and had finished a song, so I called up Dom (back down south) and played it to him over the phone. He said, "That's great. Hear from you this arvo with the next one." Not being one to walk away from a musical dare, I walked up to an old Rockhampton friend's house (still in Brissy though, stay with me) and started humming the chorus to what would become Slap My Face. The chorus lyrics came first and then it seemed pretty clear where it would end up. I called Dom again (now at Rivoli) and although I'm sure he could barely hear it over the phone in the projection room, he still said he had a good feeling about it...
